This model was released in 1979, during the heyday of large boomboxes, when various companies were releasing models with large speakers and high output. In 1979, at the height of the boom in large boomboxes, the MR-U4 was released with the catchphrase “A stylish teleco.” Small yet stereotypical, it was an instant hit, and created a genre that had never existed before. This boombox led to the sale of similarly designed boomboxes, and even gave birth to a new genre called “fashion teleco.” Subsequently, the model number changed from “MR-U4xxx”, the same as other Sanyo radio cassette players, to “U4-xxx”, and many derivative models were born as the “U4 series”, including a double cassette model and a CD-equipped model. This time, we will introduce the commemorative first U4 model.
