The Sharp MR-990 “Melody Searcher” is a rare and innovative mid-1980s portable stereo system that combines a classic boombox with a built-in electronic keyboard and music sequencer. Designed and manufactured in Japan, this unique unit blends audio playback, recording, and music creation into one all-in-one system. This model features a detachable mini keyboard (“melody computer”), allowing users not only to listen to music but also to play, compose, and record their own melodies. The keyboard includes automatic accompaniment, rhythm patterns, and memory functions, effectively turning the unit into a compact home music studio.The MR-990 also functions as a full-featured boombox, equipped with an AM/FM stereo tuner and twin cassette decks for playback, recording, and tape-to-tape dubbing.
